Dog owner gifted $35k to 'say bye' to pet that bit her makes announces (2025)

A glamorous dog owner who was given $35,000 - in part to help euthanize the dog that attacked her - has announced she kept the pet.

Shayna Crimo, 31,was mauled by her Catahoula leopard dog named King on January 18, leaving her with gruesome injuries after he ripped off her entire nose and upper lip.

Crimo revealed in February that the dog was still in her household and that she had decided to keep the pet that she's had for more than a decade.

The pet has even made an appearance in her most recent TikTok, where she updates her fans on her condition months after the brutal attack.

The pooch comes up to her elbow to see what Crimo's boyfriend James is holding while he asked her a question. The dog appeared calm and friendly.

'The biggest question that I get is do we still have King? And we do,' she said as she rolled her chair away to show the dog napping in his bed in a February 10 video.

Since the attack, Crimo has hired a personal trainer to work with her dog as she believes he was showing signs of aggression long before she noticed. She said she believes if she had started training him earlier the attack wouldn't have happened.

A few days later, she defended keeping her dog, saying she had gotten 'in his face' with the smell of alcohol on breath, which 'triggered' the pooch.

In January, Crimo set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for her surgeries, to euthanize of her other dog - who had cancer - and also for King, which she ultimately decided against

'I am allowed to change my mind on what we do with him,' she told her fans in a February 12 video. 'It's a very emotional decision for me.

'Obviously, the bite is horrible... The level that he bite me is a bit concerning. Yes, that's why I'm talking with trainers and I'm trying to investigate the situation as much as possible.'

Crimo insisted she wasn't scare of her dog, and if friends are, she'll put him in a bedroom away from them.

A few weeks later, she shared a photo showing King's personality, where the medium-sized dog could be seen calmly laying next to her with his head in her hand or near her and patiently waiting nearby.

King has only bitten once and it was registered with the State of Nevada, which has a one bite rule, meaning the owner isn't liable for the first time a dog bites someone. If the dog bites again, the owner would be liable for damages.

Crimo says her dog bit her after she approached him while he was laying down with alcohol on her breath.

As for Crimo's injuries, they have healed nicely after several reconstructive surgeries.

She is still waiting for laser hair removal to remove the hair at the end of her nose.

Crimo shared they had made a euthanasia appointment for King but decided to reschedule because she was concerned the crying could infect the wounds on her face at the time.

'The appointment was set [for Sunday]. I canceled it because I'm not ready, and I want to be able to grieve. I don't want to have to hold myself together because I don't want to cry too much and risk messing anything up,' Crimo said at the time.

'I canceled it for now. It is not an easy decision to make... People think I'm crazy because I still love my dog.
